Personal Information:
As a child displaying a wide range of athletic abilities, Erica Adams was
exposed to a variety of sports by her parents. She later decided to focus
on tennis and began playing competitively at the age of twelve. She honed
her skills on the USTA national junior circuit and in 1986 was crowned the
Ohio High School State Champion. During this time, Erica caught the eye of
many top schools, but finally chose to continue her development at Purdue
University.
As a collegiate player she led the team for four years at #1 singles and
doubles, was a four-time All Big 10 selection, and maintained a high
Division I national ranking. Her amateur career culminated in wins at the
Eck Classic, the Rolex Regionals, and the American Tennis Association
National Championships. After winning numerous awards for sportsmanship and
achievement, Erica graduated with a degree in Communications. Twenty years
after establishing a new precedent for the program, Erica’s record of career
wins remains unchallenged, making her the winningest woman in Purdue tennis
history.
Erica then chose tennis as a career, turning professional in 1992 and
spending five years on the WTA Tour. She reached career high rankings in
the top 200 in singles and doubles, won six titles on four continents, and
played in two Grand Slam events.
Erica Believes
By reinforcing discipline, concentration, and self-reliance, the philosophies of tennis permeate many
other aspects of life. The participation in the sport provides the tools for stress management, the
benefits of health and fitness, and the opportunity to promote quality time within families.
Success in tennis is most efficiently achieved by customizing
instruction around the strongest parts of one’s mind, body, and
personality. An all-court game that maximizes strengths and improves
weaknesses can thus be developed.
