“Give every student the basics. The student ultimately determines how far
they will go with the game. When they are ready they will let you know how
hard they want to be pushed while practicing. Dedication will show through
their actions, not their words. No two students are the same, so our
challenge as coaches is to convey the information in a way that makes sense
to the student (visual, verbal, or feel). In the end it has to be fun for
them.”
-Keith Foxworth
Background:
- Born in St. Louis, Missouri
- Began playing tennis at age 6
- Majored in Therapeutic Recreation
Personal Information:
Keith is married and lives with his wife in Atlanta, Georgia. He enjoys
collecting art, listening to jazz and reggae, traveling, and reading when he
is not at work.
Philosophy on the Game:
Keith’s whole family was involved in tennis at one time or another. His dad
was a self-taught retired boxer who taught himself and seven siblings how to
play. Four of them ended up gaining college scholarships and two played
professionally. Keith’s dad’s analogies of boxing and tennis taught Keith
the best lessons of the game.
The ultimate satisfaction is the reaction a student gives you when they
achieve a given task. Whether it’s a child that’s five or an adult that’s
eighty, the joy you bring to them is priceless.
Fun Fact about Keith:
He was last employed by Peachstate Tennis Academy, 2005 – 2009. While in
college Keith won three consecutive S.W.A.C. Championships as a player and
an undergraduate assistant coach at Grambling State University. Keith
received the U.S.P.T.R. He has coached sectional and nationally ranked
players. Keith enjoys working with tennis players of all ages and skill
levels - beginners, advanced, women.
