“The best part for me is to watch the development of a student and the look
in their eyes when they’re understanding. To watch a player grow is like
watching your own child grow up. It really is a joy to see that development
occur and watch the elation, and sometimes even the frustration, that comes
with it.”
-Craig Healy
Background:
- Born in Atlanta, Georgia
- Began playing tennis at age 5
Personal Information:
Craig spent 2 years at UT and 1 year at West Georgia University and
satellites Guadalajara, Mexico. He finished with a B.A degree in Spanish and
Biochemistry. Craig is married with twins Gina and CJ, 4 years old; they
currently live in Peachtree City.
Philosophy on the Game:
I try to teach kids to love the game of tennis and help them understand the
basic techniques of tennis. This way, even if they participate in other
sports they will always be able to go out and play tennis at a high level.
Tennis is the sport of a lifetime.
Fun Facts about Craig:
I grew up a top ranked junior tennis player and an All State selection in
football, basketball and tennis. I do not feel this reflects my ability to
be a great teacher. I feel that means that I grew up with great teachers and
hopefully I have absorbed their expertise and have combined them with my own
to influence the way that I teach today. Hopefully I get to pass on the same
lessons to my students. The biggest thing that I believe is that you have to
support the people that support you.
Initially, Craig was a special education teacher for one year for the City
of Atlanta public schools after he graduated. In 1997, Craig started
teaching tennis professionally. Has been employed by Peachtree Tennis Center
for 3 ½ years now. Craig has coached traveling basketball teams (AAU) and
attends the Holy Trinity Church. He is interested in his family,
landscaping, golf and basketball.
Career Highlights:
Having teams and individuals that I coached win GPTA Team of the Year 2000,
I have received multiple local, state, and southern titles. We won the State
Champions title in Junior USTA. We were also winners of the Georgia-Florida
challenge. Sportsmanship award winners make me extremely proud. I do not
look at my own accomplishments for validation anymore, as much as I look to
the results of my students.
Craig was voted GPTA Pro of the year finalist multiple times. He is NSCA
Certified Strength and Conditioning specialist, USPTA P-1, CPR certified and
Wilson Advisory Staff.
Craig works with beginners, advanced, women, and more. He feels that he has
the ability to work with all levels as he has done so throughout his career.
He runs the Junior USTA Division and within that enjoys working with levels
10 and under (beginners) to 18 and under (advanced). Also, has a great
rapport with ladies ALTA/USTA teams and has taught numerous division, city
champions and state champions.
